Book Club Buzz – suggested reading list grows longer

And just when you thought your reading list could not get more lively and interesting – it's time to add another page of gems. Here are book club suggestions from Boomers Bookshop and ABC Centre as discussed at Book Club Buzz:

Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey – while it sold as adult fiction, it is more Young Adult and would make an interesting discussion because of the story line. This book was the winner of the 2009 Australian Independent Booksellers Indie Award. Then try The House of Special Purpose and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, both by John Boyne; The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery chosen mainly for its quirky name but a real sleeper and a wonderful story; while we are talking of things French Lunch is Paris by Elizabeth Bard is an easy read and has great recipes; a must read is We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver; and also try The Complaints by Ian Rankin; Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonsen, Alice by Melanie Benjamin; Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood; Peter Carey's Parrot and Olivier in America. And then there is Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel which has been universally bagged by any book club that has read it as too verbose……We'd be interested to know what you think too so leave a comment.
