Books on the Menu

Yay! It’s F.O.O.D. Week!!! Yummo!!! Orange City Library presents its annual free F.O.O.D. Week event on Wednesday 18 April from 5.30pm.  Bookings are essential by calling the library on 6393 8132. Hear from the following local foodies and sample local produce on the night:

Brooke Daniels
Brooke Daniels hosts Breakfasts on ABC Local Radio and is known for finding interesting and delicious recipes by locals and promptly adding them to the recipe blog. She also regularly chats to listeners about growing vegetables and is always willing to pass on the best tips and advice.  Come along to discover some of her favourite recipes and foods she likes to cook.

Elizabeth Barry
Orange City Librarian Elizabeth Barry is well known for helping people choose their next read, but you may not be aware she is the catering guru behind many of our library events.  Liz is inspired by other cooks, reading cookbooks and travel.  As a member of SLOW Food she is aware of the pleasure of sharing good food, and actively sets out to counteract fast food and fast life.  She maintains an interest in local food traditions, where the food comes from and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. Elizabeth has also featured in The Sydney Morning Herald Good Living section as a Home Cook Hero.

Luke Bracks

Hear from the other “MasterChef” Luke Bracks who held the fort, or kitchen rather, at home while Kate Bracks was winning cooking challenges on television. The couple have 3 children and everyone thought Kate was going to be away just for the weekend, but it ended up being several months. Luke will let us know his favourite dishes and recipes and how he planned the family meals in the MasterChef’s home kitchen.

Merle Parrish

MasterChef favourite Merle Parrish, of Cudal, has firmly established herself in the world of baking after winning the immunity pin in a cook off on the reality TV show with her unique Peach Blossom Cake and delicious cupcakes, and most recently producing a beautiful best selling cookbook called Merle’s Kitchen.  Merle has been baking for 70 years, winning many awards, and still competes in the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

See you then!
