Weaving Workshop Gets People Weaving Together
A total of 25 guests enjoyed a weaving workshop held in the Library on the weekend and hosted by the Orange Fibre Artists Group. Everyone learnt basic weaving techniques to start a placemat, then create a bowl and how to use various materials from nature for a project. It was a fun and informative day and everyone took home a handmade piece. Thank you to our talented tutors and everyone who came along on the day.
School Holiday Activity: Giant Scrabble and Word Games
What do Madonna, Martha Stewart, Barack Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Keanu Reeves and Queen Elizabeth II have in common? They all love Scrabble.
In 1931 American Alfred Butts translated his lifelong love of crossword puzzles into a board game. It wasn’t until 1948 that the game was mass produced and the rest is well, history. It is now the world’s leading board game. Now more than 150 million games have been sold in 121 countries around the world.
For this school holidays Orange City Library has planned a game of scrabble with a giant twist. The letters will be larger than the usual letter tiles and children will play in teams.
Giant Scrabble and Word Games will be held on Wednesday 9 July from 10.30 to 12.30pm for 5 to 12 year olds. To book your place, please call the Library on 6393 8132.

Alice Mabin Launches The Drover
From the weather-beaten drovers clutching cigarettes in one hand, to the young ringers and their trusty mounts, Alice Mabin’s – The Drover captures life on the epic Brinkworth Cattle Drove. This saw 18,000 cattle walked 2,000kms across two states. Alice talked about her photography and how she went to take a few photos of the Drove near Molong and ended up helping out for weeks, riding bikes and horses, taking thousands of photographs which are now in her book. It was great to meet you Alice! Thanks for all the great yarns!
