WWI Heritage Trail of Remembrance Brochure
And so it began. Today marks the 100th anniversary when Britain declared war on Germany. Australians rushed to enlist with enthusiam. About 416,000 men and women enlisted, 60,000 were killed, a further 156,000 were wounded, gassed or taken prisoner. They served at sea, on land and in the air as soldiers, sailors, airmen or nurses.
A new heritage walking trail brochure launched today provides a guide to Orange sites commemorating those who fought, those who paid the supreme sacrifice and legacy of war. The brochure by Orange City Council’s WWI Centenary Community Committee with assistance from Orange & District Society member Elizabeth Griffin is available from Orange City Library and Orange Visitor Information Service.
We will remember them.
