December Good Reading

The December issue of Good Reading magazine is available now! Victoria Purman discusses her new book, The Three Miss Allens, and its exploration of serious social issues such as the plight of unwed mothers, domestic violence and the place of women in Australia’s history. Armando Lucas Correa introduces us to his first novel, The German Girl, a fictional account set in 1939 of a ship carrying 900 Jewish passengers seeking refuge from Germany and were denied entry to Cuba, the US and Canada.

We also get a rundown of the best Christmas cookbooks released in time for the festive season, highlights of fiction titles to look out for over the summer and an interview with Janine Burke revealing the scandalous book that got her expelled from a school for Catholic girls. Purchase a copy from the Library or use your Library card to access it online.

Knitters enjoyed a thank you morning tea at Orange City Library for all their efforts in another record breaking year creating rugs for Wrap With Love to go to people in need. Groups included the Orange Purlers who meet each Thursday morning in the Library, the Canowindra Knitting Group and Gosling Creek Aged Care Knitters. Librarian Trudi Mayfield said the group started in 2011 creating 121 rugs with the tally rising each year to this year’s incredible total of 497 rugs!!! The rugs went world-wide to Syria, Mosul, Fiji and the Philippines and 40 rugs were distributed locally through Housing Plus.  The group also gave a round of applause to Trudi for her organisation skills. Special mention was also made of the youngest member Bailey who is learning to knit. Congratulations to all involved in donating, knitting, sewing and delivering rugs.
