Orange Credit Union helps with audio-read navigators

Books are now simpler to listen to thanks to an Orange Credit Union Community Support Grant for 2009 and the Macular Degeneration Foundation. Orange City Library clients with the eye disease Macular Degeneration can use a new handy portable device known as an audio navigator. It is the size of a remote control and reads books, magazines and newspapers out loud. The red portable hand-held device is battery operated. It means books can be listened to more conveniently anywhere around the home or garden. There is a catalogue stored at the Library on a USB hard drive known as a “library in a box” which holds 1,000 titles. And depending of the size of the books, people can download 4 – 5 books or up to 40 hours of audio content. The Library has ten Navigators for people with Macular Degeneration to use. There is no cost to using the Audio-Read Navigators as sponsorship from Orange Credit Union pays for the Library site licences and Navigator content licences. So call into Orange Library branch for more information.
