Smiles for the lucky country and cricket

Everyone was spellbound by Under A Starless Sky author Banafsheh Serov as she described life in Iran during revolution and her family's escape across to the Turkish border. The event was presented by Angus & Robertson, Central West Libraries and the Central West Writers' Centre. Banafsheh thanked her family and publishers and surprisingly John Howard for helping her write the book. She said Howard provided the final motivation for her to put pen to paper and tell her family's story. She also told some humorous stories about attending school in Sydney and even met up with a school mate who now lives in Orange. She spoke about family connections, traditions and how the family decided to come to Australia for a chance of a better life but added her father had also heard that we play cricket. The next Pageturners book discussion event will be held on Wednesday 10 December 2008 from 5.30pm to 7pm at Orange City Library. Come along with your ideas, talk with others and share some festive fare as we ask the question: which book will you give as a Christmas gift? Banafsheh is pictured with Orange City Librarian Elizabeth Barry.
