David Hill at Orange City Library

It was a packed room of rapt listeners that came out yesterday to see David Hill talking about his new book The Great Race: The Race between the English and the French to Complete the Map of Australia.
David kept his audience spellbound with the sad but fascinating story of the meeting of Englishman Matthew Flinders and Frenchman Nicolas Baudin who were on separate and unknown to each other, quests to chart the unexplored coast of Australia.
David also kept his audience fascinated with many interesting historical facts from his books The Great Race, 1788 and The Gold Rush and with anecdotes and stories of his own life. And the question most listeners wanted to know at the end of David’s talk, what will his next book be about? We will all be waiting to find out.
