Amazing Paper Chain party
Portia and the Amazing Paper Chain
On the 18th December Orange City Library will be hosting a children’s party to celebrate the very successful Amazing Paper Chain promotion for the 2012 National Year of Reading.
Throughout the year the library has been inspiring children to read more and win prizes by completing a link for the colourful chain decorating the ceiling. Each link signifies a picture book, one chapter or twenty minutes of reading. Read more…
NYR Amazing Paper Chain March Winners
Congratulations to all the winners from the National Year of Reading Amazing Paper chain competition for March 2012 at Orange City Library.
The winners are: Pictured (back row): Mitch Crossman, Portia Hawke, William Whythes, Savannah Dening, Luke Weckert (front row): Lachlan Crossman, Austin Cutter and Louis O’Brien. Absent Holly Finlay, Natalie Averkin, Bailey Dickinson and Molly Sheehan
Librarian Lisa Martin presented the children was thrilled so many children have been filling in a cardboard link for every book that they read. Reading expands children’s horizons and opens doors to different worlds. It’s a really enjoyable activity
Winners will be randomly selected every month until December 2012 when we will ask the children to guess how many links there are for the final National Year of Reading Prize. Get reading!
Congrats to Feb Amazing Paper Chain Winners
Well done to Emma Wright, Matthew Baines, Alexandra Baines, Patrick Styles, Archie Backus, Tilly Backus (front) and Molly Cameron with friends, holding up their favourite February books at the Amazing Paper Chain prize ceremony at Orange City Library.
Inspiring children to read more this year is one of Central West Libraries goals for the National Year of Reading. In the childrens’ section a length of coloured paper chain is growing daily. Each link has a child’s name and book title they have borrowed and read. Each month children who add to the chain have the chance to win book vouchers, free reservations and bookmarks.
So far there are over 500 links and we’ll hold a guessing competition at the end of the year to guess the final tally of links! Come and check it out and add your link!
