And the number of links in the chain is .....
All year we’ve been watching the National Year of Reading Amazing Paper Chain grow and grow and grow with a link added for every book read, and yesterday was the grand finale. With help from our party guests, the number of links was tallied. And the total was …..5852!!!!!! That’s amazing!!! Congratulations to Connor, Piper and Patrick who won book vouchers for their close guesses and roll out the red carpet, fanfare and applause to all our readers who added links throughout the year. It was a mighty effort!
Chequered Times A History of Gnoo Blas Orange 1953-1961
Join us for the launch of Denis Gregory’s book Chequered Times; A History of Gnoo Blas Orange 1953-1961 on Wednesday 19 December at 3.30pm for a 4pm start. Orange Mayor Cr John Davis will officially launch the book.
The book covers all the races but more importantly the politics and fierce rivalry between Orange and Bathurst. Although Gnoo Blas operated for only eight years, it retains an important part in motor racing history, chalking up a number of firsts including the inaugural Australian Touring Car Championship, now the V8 series, the first international meeting in Australia, the first South Pacific Championship series and the first 100mph lap in Australia.
It was also the track where a young Jack Brabham started his road racing career.
Clowning about at Storytime
Children (and some parents and carers) joined in the Circus Storytime theme last week and had lots of fun dressing up as their favourite circus performers. Dressing up as clowns, like Hayden and Liam pictured, was a popular choice. Just a reminder Storytime for pre-school age children and their parents and carers returns to Orange City Library during School Terms on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11am, and there is now an extra session on Thursdays at 2pm. Don’t forget to book your place before the session you wish to attend up to one week prior. Keep reading!
OHS Performers Entertain at Storytime
Orange High School Yr 9 circus skills and gymnastics class won lots of fans this week when they performed at Orange City Library Storytime to support the Circus theme. Children dressed up as their favourite Circus characters with lots of clowns, acrobats and animals in the audience. Orange High teacher Anthony Wharton and student Sean demonstrated the diablo and the class showed everyone their juggling, acrobatic and gymnastics skills with lots of stunts. It was good fun. Thank you everyone for coming along.
