Public Holiday Monday
We would like to let you know Central West Libraries branches – Blayney, Canowindra, Manildra, Cowra, Molong, Forbes and Orange will be closed on Monday for the Labour Day Holiday.
Please ensure you have enough reading material to get you through the long weekend by visiting your local library soon. Happy reading!
School Holiday Fun - Lego Club
Children enjoyed Lego Club with the theme balloon cars. Lego Club has filled up for the school holidays but there are still vacancies for Boardgames Days and Cardboard Challenge III. Check out the details on Eventbirte.com.au.
Family History Societies Conference Thank you
Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding during what was a busy time for the Library and Family History Group hosting the NSW & ACT Family History Societies Annual Conference 2017.
The conference delegates, guest speakers and workshop facilitators all had a great time and enjoyed their stay in Orange.
Thanks again everyone for helping to make the conference a success.
Cowra School Holiday Scavenger Hunt
A Scavenger Hunt will be held at Cowra Library during the school holidays. Pick up an information sheet with things to look for in the Library. Children will be borrowing books to answer questions, researching for themselves and trying out the self-serve kiosk. There are free reservation cards for those who find everything on the list. Join in the special school holiday sessions on Thursday 28th September and on Thursday 5th October from 11am to 12 noon. Children of all ages are invited to take part and parents are most welcome to assist. See you soon!
Family History Societies Conference
Orange’s cultural precinct will swarm with family history detectives this week brushing up on all the latest genealogy skills as Orange hosts the annual NSW & ACT Association of Family History Societies Conference. Conference organisers are expecting 300 family and local historians to attend the series of presentations, workshops and exhibitions in the Orange Civic Theatre, Orange City Library Orange Regional Gallery and the Orange Regional Museum on September 22 – 24, 2017.
Highlights include opening the cage on your gaolbird ancestors, telling your family story through food, keynote speaker Christina Henri about her Roses from the Heart project and guest speaker well known author and actor William McInnes.
Registrations can still be made via the conference website: https://yourfamilystoryinorange.wordpress.com/
Friday is devoted to the Family History Fair at Orange City Library from 9am to 4pm where societies and organisations will ‘set up shop’ and talk to you about what’s new in the Family History world. There will be a range of exhibitors and lots of information to tempt new and experienced family historians. This fair is open to everyone – you don’t have to be a conference delegate to attend.
Please be aware that during the conference regular library services will still be available but the Orange City Library space will be disrupted. The library will not be a quiet place and likely not suitable for study. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
