Wear it Purple & Welcome Here Spaces

On Friday 26 August we are wearing Purple!!! and celebrating diversity!!!! “Wear It Purple strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.” As our Libraries in Blayney, Canowindra, Cowra, Forbes, Manildra, Molong and Orange are a newly registered Welcome Here spaces, we’re taking the opportunity to show that we are an inclusive and supportive environment for all people in our community.

The Safe Place Project started in 1992 in response to high levels of street-based violence directed at lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) people. Local businesses signed up to become a ‘Safe Place’ and proudly displayed a “Welcome Here” rainbow sticker in their front window to let LGBTIQ community members know they could seek refuge if they were under the threat of violence. So we are celebrating diversity with stickers, chocolates, books, displays and morning tea – Jasmine and Bek are pictured enjoying “purple cake”!
