VIC Bushfires and the library community

By March 12, 2009No Comments

Like many groups and individuals Orange City Library supported the call by our friends at Orange Credit Union to collect donations for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal and these quickly mounted up in our loading dock. The donations were taken along with 20 truckloads of goods by Tynans Transport and Burke's Transport to where they were needed. Included was a collection of tools with a note for the tradesmen and another on a cat carrier for the RSPCA – so thoughtful. Thank you everyone involved. Now the Australian Library and Information Association is appointing a Disaster Recovery Project Manager to develop a well coordinated, integrated and effective service system for all libraries and integrated services to provide materials and support to communities affected by natural disasters. In the immediate case they are looking at Victoria and the bushfire know as Black Saturday, and further development will lead to the support of Queensland and the flood affected areas. Check in with the ALIA website for further information.
