By October 24, 2018October 30th, 2018No Comments

Dr Carmel Bendon is a writer, academic and presenter on all things medieval. She has a PhD in Medieval Literature and a 1st Class honours in Early English, both from Macquarie University where she was a lecturer in English Literature.

She will use her medieval expertise to talk about King Arthur at Cowra Library on Tuesday 30 October at 2pm. Was there once really a King Arthur? A Guinevere? A Camelot? A round table? Let’s untangle the knots of legend and historical fact, and enjoy stories of knights, chivalry and great feats in the process. Please book your place online through eventbrite or call the Library on 6340 2180.

Then Dr Bendon will be at Forbes Library on Wednesday 31st October at 2pm to discuss  Aches, Pains and Leeches: Medieval Medicine.  Ointments made of bear fat, and poultices of moss? Medicines made of herbs and precious stones and crystals? Surgery without anaesthetic? They’re all part of the weird and wonderful approach to sickness and healing in medieval times. Please book your place online through eventbrite or call the Library on 6852 1463.

Dr Bendon is also concentrating on writing fiction. Grasping at Water is her first novel and she will also talk about this book and its marvellous mix of mystery, history and discovery that will prompt you to wonder about the way you see life.
